Angela Leitch

Angela Leitch was appointed the first Chief Executive of Public Health Scotland in September 2019.

Angela is a member of the Public Health Scotland Board and brings significant experience to the role with over 25 years’ working in local government. She began her career in human resource management before heading up the corporate support services and change management programmes at West Lothian Council. She then joined City of Edinburgh Council as Head of Service, responsible for city-wide services and the development of an innovative new neighbourhood management and governance arrangement.

Angela went on to hold the role of Chief Executive at both Clackmannanshire Council and East Lothian Council before joining Public Health Scotland.

She has previously chaired Solace Scotland. As the strategic lead for children and young people at Solace, she played an important role at a national level in a range of reforms including early learning and childcare and children’s mental health.

Angela also held a non-executive role on the Board of the Improvement Service prior to starting with PHS.  In 2022 Angela was elected as an honorary member of the Faculty of Public Health (FPH), and appointed as a trustee of the Cyrenians.
