Solace statement on the announced closure of the College of Social Work
This week it was announced the College of Social Work is to close. This is a statement from Phil Norrey, Solace Spokesperson on Children and Families and Chief Executive of Devon County Council, in response:
“We’re extremely disappointed to hear the news that the College of Social Work is going to be scrapped due to lack of funding after only four years.
“This was a real opportunity to raise standards and to support the social work profession.
“High-quality training for social workers is crucial, particularly when the sector is currently faced not only with a shortage of talent but also a surge in demand. The government must not neglect this.”
“It is crucial that the government does not now neglect the original aims of the College – to improve professional standards and to provide a voice for social workers.”
