Chief Executive COSLA

Sally Louden

Sally was appointed Chief Executive of COSLA in January 2016, coming from Argyll and Bute Council where she had been Chief Executive since September 2008.

A trained and accredited mediator, Sally has over 30 years’ Local Government experience, having worked in a range of senior roles at a number of local authorities including East Lothian and Midlothian Councils prior to taking the top job at Argyll and Bute.

Sally has also held key office – bearer positions within both Solace Scotland, the Electoral Management Board for Scotland and with ALACE (Association of Local Authority Chief Executives).

Sally has a particular interest and a real desire in getting Local Government back to its rightful place in the governance of Scotland.  She is also very much a Champion of the role Councils can play in terms of Community Leadership and as such she is Co-Chair of the Scottish Leaders Forum and a Board Member of both SCDI and FLF (Future Leaders Forum).

When not networking on behalf of COSLA and Scottish Local Government Sally is an avid reader and loves spending time with family and friends.  She also likes going to the theatre and enjoys the peace and tranquillity of hill-walking in the Scottish Borders. Sally recently trekked across the Sahara Desert to raise money for CHAS.
