Great leadership never happens in a vacuum

At Solace, our aim is to support leaders and strategic OD leads in order to develop their people and organisations to be able to meet the opportunities, challenges and the demands they face both now and in the future.

We have built up an unrivaled knowledge of the sector: the democratic context, the leadership and management challenge, the community expectations, the partnership agenda, and the statutory responsibilities. Our experience of working with the most successful organisations means that we are able to bring a unique perspective and insight to assignments.

We do this by working with you to combine this experience and expertise to deliver transformative and credible support, in a practical and accessible way that benefits your whole team.

Organisations who work with us usually find that they can:

  • Provide more effective leadership
  • Better influence partnership working
  • Predict future challenges more accurately
  • Better adapt to complexity and ambiguity
  • Be more resilient

Development Programmes

Total Leadership

Total Leadership is a unique development programme for senior executive leaders working within the public service sector or with the private sector, who are looking to take the next step in their career.

Our industry-leading programme has been developed in conjunction with Inlogov, the leading academic centre for research and teaching on local governance and strategic public management is delivered by academics from a Russell Group university, and is sponsored by the LGA, the national voice of local government.

Over the course of 12 months you can expect to work with high-calibre facilitators and speakers, experience unique opportunities to engage with prominent leaders in the public service sector, and to participate a programme that has been designed to broaden your knowledge, challenge your ways of thinking, and future-proof your leadership approach.

By the end of the programme, you will not only have a better understanding as to whether you’re ready to be a Chief Executive, but you will also be able to confidently apply key transformational leadership skills within your organisation.

Springboard

If you have the ambitions to reach the top and are already being recognised as a rising star, our signature Springboard programme could be exactly what you need to support your ambitions and accelerate your career.

This highly sought after programme includes free Solace membership for a year, invitations to several exclusive Solace events, an independent mentor, a small programme of one-day workshops and other shadowing and learning opportunities.

“This programme is like no other… it challenges you as a leader, it allows you the time and a safe space to reflect, it gives you confidence in yourself and your values and above all it gives you trusted professional friendships that will stand the test of time – I cannot recommend this programme enough.”

Julia Smith, Head of Customer and Community Services, East Northamptonshire Council.

Ignite

Ignite is our leadership programme designed to enable local government Chief Executives to further develop their understanding of their roles in an increasingly complex environment.

The programme provides a shared space for cohorts of around 12 Chief Executives to work through their individual and system leadership challenges together, identify and explore themes relevant to their role with senior leaders and critical friends outside of local government, and build stronger relationships with peers that can support deeper collaboration across local government.

Ignite works on a collaborative and co-designed basis – which means that each cohort has the opportunity to shape their own priorities and work on learning outcomes that are developed as a group.

Lasting approximately 9 months, our Ignite programme is supported by the Local Government Association, and delivered in partnership with Collaborate CIC

Executive Coach Practitioner Programme

Developed and delivered in conjunction with Developing Success, a market leader in delivering accredited coach training programmes, our

nine-day EMCC Accredited Practitioner Programme is designed to be a powerful and experiential programme for people who quickly want to accelerate their coaching experience and skill in an environment conducive to rich learning and development. This professional programme holds a European Quality Award assuring you that it meets rigorous standards.

One of the things that makes our programme stand out from the crowd is the amount of contact time we offer trainee coaches, both in understanding the theory, and applying it practically to their coaching.

In addition we believe that the large amount of skills practice on the course, coupled with powerful  personal development gives you a point of difference in this increasingly competitive industry.

Apprenticeships

Formal apprenticeships offer a fantastic way for organisations to develop in-house talent whilst futureproofing for skills shortages and adding valuable skills and knowledge to your workforce. Many apprenticeships are also eligible for funding through the apprenticeship levy.

At Solace, we recognise the importance of apprenticeships in the workplace and have developed a range of innovative programmes across all levels in conjunction with INLOGOV and industry partners, to ensure that you attract the best emerging talent for your organisation.

Executive Apprenticeship in Public Management and Leadership

"The Apprenticeship route for me was a must as I have a very demanding role at the Council. It's a fantastic opportunity at this level of study and is delivered in a way that complements and enhances your role at work. Having managed an Apprentice before, I always advocated the idea but now being one myself, I would definitely recommend it to others."

Sumera Shabir, Solicitor, Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council and Apprentice, Regional Apprenticeship Programme

"Working in partnership with Solace to deliver leadership development as an apprenticeship programme has been very positive. Richmond and Wandsworth Councils have a strong commitment to staff development. Solace has added real value through their unique understanding of the public sector."

Ian Stedman, Head of HR, London Borough of Richmond and Wandsworth
