Solace statement on Climate Change Committee’s report

Sharon Kemp, Solace Spokesperson for Environment and Climate change, said: “This latest report from the Climate Change Committee only reinforces Solace’s view that, without the active participation of sufficiently empowered and resourced local authorities, it is unlikely the government can deliver on its net zero targets and on a green recovery.

“Alongside this report, Solace, as part of a coalition of NGOs, academics, and local government organisations, is calling on national government to put local action at the heart of its plans to tackle the climate emergency. Whilst there were some welcome commitments in the Government’s recently announced “10-point plan”, more funding and a clear framework for where the relevant responsibilities and powers lie is needed.

“To set out a way forward, this coalition has launched a blueprint for accelerating climate action and a green recovery at the local level. Already backed by around 100 councils and organisations from across the sector, please sign up now and show your support.
